Explanations in French  [Tsimihety] (comme satra (2) ; seule la prononciation diffère un peu). Hyphaene shatan Bojer ex Dammeret Medemia nobilis (Hildebrandt & H. Wendl.) Gall. (Arecaceae). Les troncs de ces Arecaceae, surtout ceux d'un gros diamètre, est évidé pour faire des tambours. C'est pourquoi on appelle encore satrambaviny, le côté « feminin » du tambour ; celui que l'on bat seulement de la main gauche ; et satrandahiny, le côté « masculin », celui que l'on frappe a pris le sens de prélude, d'introduction à un morceau de musique, car le tambour donne le premier le rythme, la mesure.
