Outre ses feuilles comestibles, ce petit arbre fournit une gomme rougeâtre employée en médecine populaire ; ses racines écrasées sont sinapisantes ; jeunes, elles peuvent être consommées comme celles du Raifort ; ses graines fournissent une huile, dite "huile de Ben", très résistante à l'oxydation et employée comme lubrifiant en horlogerie avant l'industrie des paraffines.
