kapok ou capok. Poil végétal formant la bourre qui remplit l'intérieur des fruits d'un groupe de bombacées. Le kapok type est fourni par Ceiba pentandra, ou Eriodendron anfractuosum, arbre de grande dimension, très répandu dans la zone tropicale. Chaque filament étant formé par une cavité étanche, les poils de kapok possède une flottabilité remarquable, qui donne à 1 kg de kapok une force portante de 19 kg.
